A couple of years ago, we had the opportunity to hear Gary Haugen, President and CEO of the International Justice Mission, speak on the injustice of Human Trafficking.  That talk opened our eyes to a world that we did not even know existed. 

Did you know...

...there are more slaves today than any time in recorded history? 
...human trafficking is a $32 Billion per year industry?
...an estimated 1.2 Million children are trafficked each year?
...it is not just a crime perpetrated on foreign soil...it happens right here in the United States?
...300,000 American children are sexually exploited every single year?
...the average age of a person forced into prostitution is only 13?
...some laws still allow children (who are incapable of consenting to sex) to be convicted of prostitution?

Modern Day Abolitionists

These statistics and this crime seems like something from a strangely dystopic novel; sadly, they are a reality of the world we live.  Although we want to see slavery in all of its forms abolished, we are most grieved by the trafficking of children - especially when forced into prostitution or when abused sexually.
